TCPS November Newsletter

We hope you’re staying warm and dry during this descent into winter, and if you’re feeling the need to get out and connect with your community, you’re in luck! We’ve got lots of events happening this month, with something for everyone, so check out our offerings below!

A few announcements for November:

It’s time for a fundraiser! We were delighted to spend most of our budget this year on our big Pride celebrations, and now it’s time to replenish our coffers so we can move into 2026 with full excitement for next year’s festivals. So join us at Parkside Brewery on Wednesday November 26 from 7-10pm to celebrate your community, play some games, and maybe even take home one of our lovely silent auction items! (And if you have silent auction items to donate, please reach out!). Tickets are $20 and include a drink ticket for a beer or nonalcoholic beverage.

We are holding a brief online Special General Meeting on Sunday November 16, in order to change our constitutional purpose to one that the CRA considers charitable! Many thanks to Osler Law who is helping us navigate the charity application process. You can find the link listed in our events, below.

Tri-Cities Pride Society is collaborating with one of our community members to bring you a Queer Death Cafe this weekend! This is a safe place to talk about grief, loss, and other topics around death that we don’t tend to discuss at the dinner table. Details below!

Finally, for those of you who love our Out and About walk, we’re doubling your opportunities to join us! Due to popular demand, we will be holding a second Out and About walk on the third Tuesday of the month at 7pm. It’s a great after-dinner passeggiata with friends!
Queer Death Cafe
Saturday November 15, 1-3pm, Pinetree Community Centre, Room 3
Join us for our first Queer Death Cafe, run by TCPS Volunteer Nick De Young! This is a place to talk openly about death, grief and loss within the queer community. So often these are topics considered taboo to speak about, and yet many of us grapple with these deep feelings and don’t have a safe space to express these. Folks in the queer community may struggle with additional issues due to complex family dynamics and legal recognition of relationships. Here, you can talk about it all, with like-minded individuals! To learn more about Death Cafe, check out the website here: https://deathcafe.com/ This event is free and no registration is required.

TCPS Special General Meeting
Sunday, November 16 · 1:00 – 2:00pm, via Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/bjs-zhxw-vce
We’re working with Osler Law to apply for charity status – which will allow us to apply for more grants, and provide charity tax slips for private donations! This is a big part of our long-term strategy to grow TCPS and promote sustainability over time. In order to apply, we need to ensure our Purpose, as stated in our Constitution, aligns with the CRA’s allowed charitable purposes. We’ve been in discussions for a few months, and now need your help to vote our new Purpose into reality! Note: Only members are allowed to vote, so please go to our website and update your membership for the 2025 calendar year (it’s suggested $15 or accessible memberships as low as $0). Membership details can be found here: https://tricitiespride.ca/join/

Out and About Walk – Weekday Edition

If your dog is friendly they are welcome to join us as well! Meet in front of the Praugery at Town Centre Park Community Centre. Free, no registration required.

Crafty Queers – cancelled for November!
Sadly, we have cancelled November’s Crafty Queers due to organizer illness. Stay tuned for more in future!

Pride and Allies Book Club
Wednesday November 26, 7-8pm, Coquitlam Public Library Poirier Branch, boardroom
Join us for our monthly Pride and Allies Book Club, where we read and discuss literature by and/or starring folks from the 2S/LGBTQIA+ community! This month we’re reading “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,” a New York Times bestseller by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Discover the bisexual life story of Evelyn, set within the Hollywood glam of the mid-twentieth century! Free, and no registration required.

Queers and Beers Tricities – Fundraiser Edition!
Wednesday November 26, 7-10pm, Parkside Brewery
We’re holding a fundraiser for TCPS so we can go into 2026 confident and ready for action! Tickets are $20 and include a drink ticket for a beer or nonalcoholic beverage, and we’ll have optional games and icebreakers for those who like organized activities 🙂 Plus we’ve got a silent auction featuring art from local queer artists who have donated their craft for our benefit! Tickets are available in advance here: https://buy.stripe.com/9B6dR91Ol6ZZ5hn4fF43S07

Out and About Walk
Saturday December 6, 1-2pm, Lafarge Lake
As the months seem to sneak up on us, we figured we’d better mention our regular Out and About walk for December here! Come join us on the first Saturday of the month for some good company and a little movement! We usually do a couple of laps of Lafarge Lake. If your dog is friendly they are welcome to join us as well! Meet in front of the Praugery at Town Centre Park Community Centre. Free, no registration required.
